Need to make some bits for the boat; jack stays , dinghy mounts etc.

I will get uv resistant thread and am trying to source polyester webbing.

There is loads of this stuff on e bay, but can anyone tell me is it all the same stuff? Or is some more uv resistant than others?

I am planning on using 25mm webbing for the jack stays and making the sewn overlap at least 20cm.

Why webbing? Why not a decent piece of rope - you then choose the elasticity which makes sense to you, you get a higher breaking strain and surely round rope will run through your clip on thing better than a piece of webbing?

My local sail loft made mine from Kayo webbing a few years ago and they are fine. A better bet than cheapie eBay stuff.

Webbing sits flat and doesn't roll when you tread on it. I have SS rings on mine and clip on to the rings which slide easily along the webbing

Each to his own

Kayospruce are people to use or buy from your llocal sailmaker. Polyester webbing is the best and strongest. It is good for uv resistance, better than nylon or Polypropylene, even so I remove and stow in a locker after a trip. From memory you can get 2000 or 3000 kg breaking strain. Bonded Polyester thread is the best or you can get some VERY expensive Teflon? Thread. Jimmy Green will also make to order. I fitted snap shackles on each end so they can be easily removed, but this did involve carefull measurement!

 Snap shackles sound convenient, but I'd be worried one could be 'tripped' due to activity on the deck!

Although they're a shag to rig and remove each time, I use proper shackles for the forward end, and a buckle at the aft end so the webbing length can be adjusted.

I stopped using webbing jacklines when I found that they had totally disintegrated after 18 months. I had purchased a 100 ft roll from a horse tack shop
I now use rope. Yes it can roll under foot but as my harness lines are on the short side when I stand up it lifts the jackline off the deck a bit
Also a soft rope does not roll like wire which is dangerous to walk on
