Some time ago somoen posted a link to a youtube or similar clip of racing yachts going through a narrow chanel on the west coast of sweden, it was a round island race, with a very narrow channel in a breeze, with several yachts ending up ramming the rocks.....
Can anyone remember the thread , link or title of th evid so I can find it...

Thanks

Very sharp crew Re: MOB

The last boat shown in that video had a very alert crew performing a brilliant MOB recovery!

I have very little experience of flying a spinnaker so please excuse my possible ignorance! In those circumstances, with the spinnaker contributing to pressing the boat onto the rocks, wouldn't the "cheapest" option be to have let the spinnaker sheet, guy, halyard, go allowing the sail to disappear over the horizon in order to concentrate on getting out as quickly as possible. Seemed to me to be a false economy trying to drop the spinnaker in the usual manner.

Not intended as a criticism, I wasn't there, my first and possibly wrong reaction, would have been to let everything go?

But a great (if you can call it that) bit of film and yes, an amazing reaction from the crew on that last boat who collared the MOB from the boat ahead.

Cheers. Brian.

One has to doubt the sanity of the race committee for setting this particular course!

When this clip popped up on a racing forum the Swedes said that it is a shortcut in an anual round the island race, a bit like cutting inside the wreck at the needles. Only a bit more spectacular....

Apparently most boats choose a different route...

Looking at the video & to be honest I dont think they had the time to react and let the spinny flog.

Looks like......

Olympiastrande yacht harbour entrance in the Kieler Fjorde with Kiel Light away in the distance. Anyone else recognise the area? Looks like crash test to me - boat speed 6.5kn on to rocks!
