I have recently bought a Truman 30 cruiser (Windrush) and am getting on very well with her. I would, however, be keen to get in touch with any other owners to compare notes, swap tales of high seas antics and seek inspiration from fitting-out tips.

I understand that there were a total of 6 built between 1979 and the early '80s by Truman Yachts on Oulton Broad. One is believed to be in Holland but that still leaves 4 in circulation.

Any info or leads gratefully appreciated.

Regards

Richard

Truman 30

Hi Rob
I bought the yacht from Gubbo. She is now called Dolce Vita. I have to say that she is a great boat with loads of space. I keep mislaying things in the lockers. Where are you based. I am on the River Blackwater. It would be nice to see another Truman. I get blank looks when I tell people the make.

Thanks for your message. So pleased to hear from you. Bet you are please with your Truman.
Ironically we too are also on the Blackwater. We are in Tollesbury. I am not sure but I think I saw Dolce Vita in Tollesbury recently. It would be great to talk to you or even meet up with you. My telephone number is 07737968734.

Know what you mean about space. We have had Greygoose now for a little over 3 years and are still finding things we didn't know we had.

Regards

Truman 30

I have owned "FABROSA", the third Truman to be built, for 22 years and have cruised extensively along the South Coast, and in Normandy and North Britanny. To the best of my knowledge, seven Truman 30's were built in 1978/79. The first 4 were cream hulls with a grey band at the gunwhale, the latter were I think white and blue.
Some years ago there were 3 of us out in the Solent to watch the start of one of the Whitbread Round the World races.
Fabrosa is berthed in Haslar Creek, Gosport, Hampshire

I have owned Truman 30 No3, "FABROSA" for 22 years and have recently been in touch with 3 other owners. There were 7 built, 4 cream with a grey band and 3 blue. I know No1, Spirit of Amelia now berthed in the Mayflower Marina, Plymouth. Dolci Vita is I think No4 and Greygoose is 5,6 or7. Where are you based and what is the name and colour of yours and do you know her number?
I keep Fabrosa at the Hornet Sailing Club in Haslar Creek, Gosport. My e-mail address is frank@gcraig10.freeserve.co.uk.
Yours

There is one in Howth Yacht Club Co. Dubllin. The couple and dogs who own her are full of praise for her comfort and seakeeping. The keel looks a bit short but seems to do more than one would expect.
Good sailing and boating to all!

Truman 30

Hi all,

I am looking for another boat and have seen a Truman 30 advertised. She looks pretty good from the advert but I don't know anything about them. I am hoping someone can tell me what their sailing performance is like. Can you compare them speed-wise with something more well known. I see that the draft is modest at less the 4ft, which is good for me, and she is quite beamy. Does this seem to affect her windward performance. Any comments would be grarefully received.

Thanks a lot

Les.

Truman 30

Hi Les

I have owned Truman 30 No3, Fabrosa for 22 years. She has suited me and has come up to the specification of a well found cruising boat which sails well, stands up to bad weather but does not have any of the foibles fitted to yachts designed for racing. I can thoroughly recomend the class for family cruising. I have sailed Fabrosa single handed but with advancing years prefer to have at least one other crew with me. She carries quite a lot of sail and although not the closest when going to windward, I can hold my own against most 30 to 32ft cruising yachts.

I presume that it is Grey Goose that you are looking at. She is one of the last 3 of the 7 built. The first 4 were cream coloured.

If you wish any more information, my e-mail is

All the best with your search

Another Truman 30 has been offered for sale by Boatshed Wales. Her name is Kate 111. There are so many differences between my boat , Dolce Vita.
This may be the last one of the seven. One in Ireland 2 on the east coast and 3 on the south coast

My father and I have just bought Spirit of Amelia and will be taking her up from Plymouth to the North West in the near future. Would love to hear from any of the current owners to get advice, tips and learn from your experiences of the Truman's.

Andrew, thank you for keeping meticulous notes about items of kit stowed around the boat. Really appreciate it and can't wait to get Spirit of Amelia back on the water.

I am considering buying grey goose. The current owner seems to have completely neglected her since buying her I don't think she has been taken out of the water at all for the last 5 or 6 years at least and he has no idea how old the mast and standing rigging are. He also has no idea if the keel bolts have ever been replaced. He also had the bright idea of chopping a few inches off the bow to comply with marina regulations on overall length so there is currently a big hole in the bow and no place to attach the forestay on the deck. It is really in a bad state But it could restored. One big concern I have with this Truman in particular is that the keel looks especially short and as it is currently not in any condition to actually sail I won't be able to get a feel for her before making any offer. I am guessing that her comfort ratio and capsize screening formula are similar to the moody 30 but that is a guess and it's impossible to find online. Any information at all would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rob, send me your email and I'll send over photos of an old design review document. Tried to upload but files too big.
