Anyone got suggestions for a small ish boat that has a real double berth, ie at least 4'6" wide, 6 feet long. That you don't have to get into like a potholer, feet first and under the cockpit. One you can stand beside, rather than at one end of it if you see what I mean.

I really don't like v berths very much, or sleeping in the saloon. The one I have come up with is Westerly Konsort Duo which is 29' long and has a double forward. That is great, but I don't like the saloon or the cockpit which are short of lounging space.

Other wise I am looking perhaps at Moody 33. Thats really as big as I'd want to go. But perhaps there are aft cabins that arent too much like a coalhole?

Has anyone seen a succesful conversion, perhaps?

Thank you
Graham

Clark and Carter have a Barbican 33 in Kent with a double berth and seat in the forecabin. Rare sort of layout because in this size boat the berth size forward is limited.

There is a wide range of centre cockpit boats from the 70s and 80s around 33-36 ft particularly from Westerly and Moody that have offset double berths in the aft cabin. Price range from roughly £30-£50k. Think Discus, Seahawk, Corsair, 333, 34, 346 - all popular and readily available on the market, although now getting on in years and very variable in condition.

I have a Moody 33 mk2 and we sleep in the forward vee bunk which is OK. There was a double bunk conversion in the saloon but the 'board' supplied wouldn't fit as at some time in the past the saloon table had been repositioned and the board was now too large. The rear cabin has two singles but the mk1 had an offset hatch so perhaps a double could be fitted? But still a seperate cabin & no walk thro'. So it's basically a 6 berth boat now.

Sirius make a range of yachts designed for two (or one) instead of bulding "pack em in like sardines" AWBs for the charter market.

Anybody else know of boats that are built from the keel up for live-aboard couples? By that I mean just one decent cabin, instead of lots of lockers you have to crawl into.
