about to order some more, must be red & breathable, long lasting would be good too. any suggestions ?

Glue a patch on your bottoms where they are worn out?
Might not be so breathable locally in that area though.

I think you are referring to water proof trousers worn out of which I have very little experience. However I wear white jeans for sailing which inevitbly has worn out the seat. This becomes a good oportunity to put in stacks of denim to not only repair the hole but make a built in cushion.
So if the other option is to throw the trousers away you can't go wrong by trying to glue a patch over the hole.But make the patch big and you could even try some padding inside.
Stitching is ideal but may reduce the water prood ness which means you want a flexible sort of glue. good luck olewill
