What's the difference between triwatch and scan tag on icom vhf radio ?
The manual isn't too clear.
I mean if I add 3 channels to scan tag isn't it doing the same as triwatch?
Basically what I want is to monitor channels 16, 11 and 80 when I'm piloting the boat. Which one will do that?

Tri watch includes ch 9 16 and one other

Scan you can do what you want.

You can also change from priority scan to normal scan in the hidden menu

Not true unless one has specifically set up Ch 9 as one of the three triwatch channels. Triwatch scans three channels: 16, the one you have selected as the long push channel (termed the Call channel) on the blue Ch 16 button and the channel you have currently set on the main display to transmit and receive. I use Ch 80 as the Call channel to monitor Marina traffic, plus when I'm approaching the destination marina, it's easy to select 80 with a long push on the blue button.

In the OP's case, then, set up 80 as the Call channel, select 11 as the working channel on the main display and select triwatch. As has been mentioned, it's probably worth setting up priority scan to give priority to 16.

If you don't tag any channels on Scan, it will scan all channels.

It depends how recent the set is. I belive it came in with the 323 (I have one somewhere I could dig it out...) but certainly the 411 and 421 age sets you were stuck with channel 9 for triwatch.
