As I enjoy looking at / reading the picture posts of peoples boating trips I thought I would post some pics of our recent trip to Bucklers Hard.

I've been there a few times however we were without the children this time so rather than staying in the marina we picked up a mooring buoy instead. I have to say, it was a much nicer experience!!!

Sorry there are no running shots, I was seriously enjoying the cruise over so didnt even think of picking up the camera!

Safely on the swing mooring...

The peace was then shattered by some hooligan Kayakists :D:D

It really is a nice place to go and if you can stay away from the marina its even better!

Nice. I was up that way last Thursday evening and saw that Swordsman on a mooring. Your boat looks very nice. I hadn't seen one with the blue band before.

Yep have to agree, the buoy moorings past Bucklers Hard are just superb, so peaceful. We were there last Saturday, but I couldn't get to my favorite spot past Bucklers, so ended up before the marina and endure the trip cruise boat every so often and it's wash.

Great pictures, the only downside, everyone will want to go there now.

Looks very nice. Good strong mooring lines there too! Your boat looks very smart, do you find it sails well? :D

It's a lovely spot. I was in the marina Saturday night to meet some smelly campers. Bang next to the fuel pontoon, so maximum chance of getting hit, which fortunately didn't happen, but a great spot to watch boats coming and going.

£33.50 per night is quite steep, though.

BH is a great peaceful place to moor for the night, many a great night spent either on the visitor pontoon or swinging around a buoy in the lower reaches of the river, about 20 squids for 43ft from memory.

Great pictures!

if you go on the trot potoons it half the price, but you'll need a tender to get ashore as there's no watertaxi, or there wasn't earlier this year.
I never tire of the Beaulieu river, it's always a beautiful place to visit.

Never been to Bucklers Hard. How do you know which buoys are public?

It is fairly straight forward, just find a vacant white buoy and tie-up, if the buoy has private on it then don't. The harbour master will then tell you the status of the buoy, if they don't know, they ask you not to leave the boat. I've been doing it for years and not once have I been asked to move because of the owner returning when staying overnight.

The harbour staff are very helpful and friendly and do their best to assist. If you can get past the marina you will not have so much wash from passing boats. Also becareful how far up river you go, if you go too far it will dry out at low tide.

Wow, what is that long wooden yawl in your photograph with people heaving on halyards?

It is a replica of a French longboat built in the 18th century, "Integrite" that's her name, is modeled on an original gig left behind in Bantry Bay, Ireland,by an invading French fleet in 1796.

One of the warships, "La Resolue" was severely damaged during a storm, some of the crew were ordered to find another member of the fleet and request a tow, but their longboat was driven ashore and the crew members captured.

The original which is still in Ireland, is said to be the oldest French naval vessel in the world, the 38' craft has been allocated a berth in the former shipbuilding village of Bucklers Hard on the Beaulieu river.

They experimented with a water taxi a couple of summers ago. I'm guessing it didn't generate enough business to justify continuation, because it hasn't been seen since.

There is no finer place to keep one's boat than on a swinging mooring on the Beaulieu River :)
