Trip report: Skye, Raasay, Rona and Soay, 2015

Lovely report, I enjoyed that. Whenever I have toured the west of Scotland by road, I have always thought what a fabulous motorboat cruising area it would make although the weather doesn't usually help. Speaking personally I would appreciate more cruising reports from this area

Deleted User, thanks - it certainly is a beautiful part of the world. True, you don't see a lot of motor cruisers up here - I assume it is because of the distance from where most of them are down south and the cost of getting them here. But there is something about having the sea to yourself also - there have been days when we haven't seen another boat - so we don't mind too much. :)

Well its an area that is certainly on our cruising bucket list for our retirement

We thoroughly enjoyed reading through your blog and some of your earlier musings have given us some inspiration for our 2017 trip up to Scotland with Naughty-Cal.

We intend to spend a week exploring the Caledonian, being dropped in at the Inverness end, before having a further week on the West Coast and being picked up in the Oban area.

Top read! I'm based in Fort William and just bought a sports cruiser. Although I'm intending on inland for the canal. Maybe 1 day I'll look seaward

Thanks. At least you have the best of both worlds in Fort William!

Sounds good! The Caledonian is a good place to start before tackling the sea, very interesting in its own right, and there are some excellent places to visit down from Corpach to Oban.

The OH has always wanted to do the Caledonian since we bought the boat 8 years ago. So we figured it was about time we got around too it and ticked it off the list.

I'm enjoying the planning of the sea based part of the holiday. Again we don't intend to travel far each day as we will be at the mercy of the Scottish weather!

I'm planning on moving my boat to Montenegro later this season with the idea of spending more time exploring Croatia next year. Actually, when we were in Croatia previously, we often commented that the Croatian coast was like the West of Scotland but with better weather and wine:)

Another fine offering rb, you certainly do plenty of research on your cruising destinations and top marks for doing it in such a small boat.

Well, you have to have something to do on these long Scottish winter evenings! And the boat is just the right size for trailering to wherever we want to go, then having a 'caravan' to live on for three weeks! The secret is having a very tolerant First Mate, though.

exactly my thought when I read this beautifull trip report from rbmatthews

Thanks Bart. It's a beautiful part of the country. But the whisky is much better than in Croatia even if the wine isn't.
