trim/tilt gauge issue

Hi all
Good morning, my first post as just joined.
I have a carver 24 with a Volvo 171c engine and I think a 280 outdrive, my issue is if I set the tilt to 0 on the gauge after a few moments it will go to the sixtys and shows a red light, I can reset to 0 but will go back up.
Only use on the river, I have lost no fluid from the trim/tilt and I am thinking it could be the valve body under the trim/tilt motor??.
Any help would be great.
Andy.

It seems odd that the leg is going up ??
I had an issue where the leg went down and the fault was the trim pump.
I could not find a source for the valve/pump body alone.

Hi Martyn
Thanks for the reply, sorry but thought that the numbers going up = leg going up.
The trim pump is working I just thought that the valves that sit under the electric motor might be leaking back/losing pressure causing an issue.

I am not sure if I fully understand - is the leg actually going up of its own volition, or is it just the dial "thinking" the leg is going up. A reading of 60 suggests that the leg is in beach mode

We had a similar issue, albeit on a later version, where the leg was down, but when we adjusted the trim by a small amount the sensor carried on registering movement. At one stage the lag was fully in, the sensor thought it was at 285, and we couldn't start the engine. Volvo had to replace a potentiometer and thus far we have had no issues.

Hi Andy
I am not sure.
if I go slow all seems ok if I go a bit quicker the gauge reads into the sixtys (not sure if the leg moves), I can then press the down button and the gauge can go back to 0 for a few moments then will go back to the sixtys,
I would have thought that the faster I go the more the screw should push forwards not towards the back.
Just a note but the splash from the back (propeller) dos'nt change.

The gauge from my leg was giving sky high reading at random last year, it was a connection block that had a bad connection in the back of the engine bay behind the leg, it was a white plug. I just parted the 2 plugs and sprayed with wd40, pushed the plugs back together and it sorted it out.
