Trim tab problems

Afternoon all

The Bennett trim tabs on my T37 appear to be misbehaving. There is a single power pack which drives both trim tabs and the engine lifter. The engine lifter is working correctly.

When you operate the starboard trim button, the starboard tab moves correctly, but very slowly. When you operate the port trim button, the starboard tab moves quickly - and the port tab does not move at all.

The chap from the local marine engineers appears to have no experience of trim tabs at all, from what he's saying. Anyone got any ideas? My uninformed guess is the solenoid/manifold that diverts the power pack output to each tab - but it would be good to hear from anyone with any similar experiences.

Cheers

Best guess

Remember they are cross wired.

When you press the starboard down, starboard tab should not move and port should move down.

Therefore the starboard side trim tab solenoid has failed and needs replacement, only one wire and screws in and out almost by hand.

You could try the port one to test it by swapping them.

both sides share a motor and the solenoid diverts where the oil goes so remember to screw the broken one back in the other side or oil will go everywhere.

Thanks all; I didn't know about the cross-wiring thing. I'm just off back down to the marina now - I'll give the swapping the solenoids over a try. Thanks again.

on ours we found the wiring tp be a bit iffy, due to watersplash, check back from the reservoir, there are about five wires from memory, any dodgey connections redo.
