At several places on the river there are port or starb'd hand buoys. For instance, there are starb'd hand buoys above Penton Hook just below the Laleham Reach, below Clifton Hampden bridge and also below Abingdon.

Now, here's the tricky question.........

What do they actually tell you........?

No, what do they ACTUALLY tell you....and I don't just mean 'keep left on the way up cos its shallow over there.....or is that all we can rely on???

You've lost me Tone, thats what they tell me?

Or do you mean that the EA have given in trying to sort out the problem and just stuck a bouy there?

See. I told you it was tricky !

What I mean is.....wouldn't it be nice if they were to mark the point at which the river meets the minimum depth for navigation that they specify for that stretch or some other specific eg 1 metre ?

That would be no good, the length of the river would be full of buoys.

And they'd have to keep taking them in every night and putting them out again mid-morning!

But that is defined, the EA keep the middle third to the required depth except where there is errr.. a bouy?

ROFL!!

Perhaps they should change the Boat Safety Scheme to require all boats to have wheels on the bottom...

I can see it now - NO REGRETS III
