Tricky engine removal.

Hmmm, Well may we assume that that they intend to put some other engines in? If so are they intending to carry them down the spiral staircase as well? Some of the story missing I suspect. I was surprised with the comment that the engines would cost £7000 each new, maybe 30 years ago or maybe he missed a 2 off the front? Big old lumps, must weigh a ton each surely?

Item location - Sidcup!

More likely to be Brixham, yes should be an interesting watch.

That's the eBay seller's location - if you read through the text they're suppoedly in Brixham...

Twin 'Detroit Diesel' turbocharged engines. V8, 750hp units. 12.1Litres. These engines are installed on a 62ft vessel we have recently purchased. One has been run around 8 months ago, the other has some form of head problem, which I can obtain more details of. The turbos are both in good working order. Buyer will need to strip and remove engines from the vessel, which is situated in Brixham, Devon. Removal of blocks may be difficult, as they need to be moved up a short spiral staircase. These engines will cost you around £7000 each new, and spares alone would be enormous in cost.

I have an engine crane and a box of spanners - what are you up to at the weekend John...? I wonder if I could fit in the 14' :eagerness:

They're probably worth a fair bit in parts if they're running and in good order, but there's one or two vessels around the quayside there that have been to bottom and back!

So is he converting to a houseboat?

If he's re-engining there must be some thought about how to get the new ones in. Probably going to hang a Mariner 9.9 over the back.

I thought that listing might raise a bit of a chuckle, I can see a marine engineering firm turning up with a new pair and wondering how to get them down the spiral stars!

8V 92's ... parts readily available and fully interchangeable with SpottyDog's 6V92's ... so could be some cheap injectors, pistons, liners, turbo's, intercoolers there ....

Would have offered to take apart for removal for free (remover keep the parts) ... but there is no-way those V8 blocks and gearboxes will go out that hole ... Full engine is about 1.5 T + gearbox, so condition would be that block & gearbox to be left behind (easy to find new ones anyway) ... or current owner allows some de-construction to facilitate full removal... heads probably the other heavy item but at about 80 Kg each, so those would be "easy"..., then strip out the inners ... :)

How are the engines fitted from new?

I'd be surprised if there wasn't access for lifting the engines, even if it meant lots of dismantling.

The listing is quite funny really. Please solve my problem and pay me for the privilege.
