Cor Strewth Barry, there's a name to conjure with, you got a real thoroughbred there mate. In its day the creme de la creme.
Problem is Chris Tremlett built various boats and they were all classed as Sports even the 42. Which is your one? What size? If yours is the 42 Sports model the maximum power plant is 600HP giving about 25 knots.
Tremletts were never a mass builder and haven't been around for years.

The boats a 21, ive been told that the hull is based on the racing hull of the late 60s early 70s. The engine in it at the moment is a AQ145. although its got fuel injection and a turdo fromthe volvo 240T road car. i dont want to go the oil burner route but want to stick with petrol. most people ive talked to reckon i should be looking at around 250hp. that would be quiet a large V8 but i am worried about all that wieght on the stern.

Ive already spoken to Lancing, but they only seem interested in selling me a oil burner. OK they cheap fuel would be good but to get the performance i want the wieght of the enginge would sink the thing! Ive got an engine from a corvette stingray of mid 90s vintage which i am currently rebuilding for my bro. but with enough goading i think he will give it up anyway possesion is 9/10ths of the law????

The existing volvo unit in basterdised form give around 185hp, but thats running the turbo at about 4psi so its all or nothing not too handy when berthing in St Helier, but great getting there!!

I understand that tremletts have always been at Topsham which is one of the most interesting old ports I have ever visited. It is on the river Exe and was one of the leading boatbuilding sites in the UK, I think in early Elizabethan times. Hope this is of some use. I am a yachtie but like to keep up with what you noisey motorboaters are discussing.

Noisy motorboaters indeed!!!!! You should hear a friends sabb oil burner on tickover in a rival 32 which i might add i have taken to the med for him, Lancing only seem interested in ford york engines for some reason. but i will give them a call after ive followed up the Topsham lead, hopefuly they can shed some light on the subject of recomended horse power. I have seen a smaller model with a 225hp outboard so maybe i can use that as a starting point. Thanks for the info its been a great help
