Thanks to those who offered advice about removing old glue from my cockpit sole.

Now I want to lay the new surface. Firstly, does anyone have any experience, good or bad, of Treadmaster? Secondly, there appear to be two types: Treadmaster M and Treadmaster SP. What's the difference?

My experience of Treadmaster is that it's just about the ultimate in non-slip and durability. Grades M and SP refer to the surface finish - one is the diamond-shaped, deep groove pattern for walking on and the other is much smoother for seating.

I used the correct two-pack epoxy adhesive after removing all the stuff that a previous owner had stuck down with impact adhesive - a massive job that took a whole winter. The main problem with the two-pack is that it has no grab, so newly applied sheets of Treadmaster will slide downhill until it cures. We found that a mixture of weights and masking tape were needed to stop it. We also found a small wooden roller, sold for spreading the paste to the edges of vinyl wallpaper, to be very useful for distributing the adhesive beneath the sheets.

I suspect that use of the Sikaflex adhesive would overcome the grab problem. I have some Marinedeck 2000 stuck down with Sikaflex and the adhesion still appears excellent after 3 years.

I have treadmaster diamond on deck and smooth in the cockpit as has already been mentioned excellent anti slip. My smooth pattern is starting to lift in the cockpit in places. This is glued to ply locker lids, where its attached to grp its fine.

I have treadmaster on my boat to,been on since new 23 years ago. You can also get treadmaster paint which is also pretty good, painted mine two years ago and it still looks great. It is bad news on the cockpit seats as it leaves dimond marks on your bum after sitting on it for more than 10 mins at a time.

Is your painted treadmaster in a high traffic area? I would like to tidy up my companionway steps which have the smooth treadmaster, but can't really believe the paint would stand up to the traffic. Don't think I could remove the old, so only alternative will be a new sheet of treadmaster over the top.

Anyone Ideas??

I think we have the same boat (type) and the same problem. I am going to paint mine but I can't buy the paint over here. A friend used to paint his treadmaster decks from time to time and it seemed to last very well, including the frequently used parts in the cockpit and side decks.
