I know its a long shot but is there anyone out there who knows the owner of a 34ft sloop called Tread Softly which is berthed in Marines de Cogolin, France.
I live in an appartment in the Marina and have noticed that the foresail has slowly begun to unfurl and shred itself and the main is slowly creeping out of its bag obviously intent on doing the same.
I fear that neither sail will survive the next Mistral unless they are taken off.
The Marina staff arent really bothered as they have sat and watched many a sail come undone and shred in the Mistral without lifting a finger.
I am tempted to jump aboard a take the sails off but I am not sure how I would feel if I came back to my boat (which is in Italy at present) to find some stranger had my damaged sails in his house with some story of how he found them like that.
Mabey is someone knows the owner he could get in touch with me on this site and I wil glady help.

Ask the marina to pass a message onto the owner (in writing and ask for a receipt) and keep a copy. If the owner doesn't recieve it, he can prove the marina negligent?

What a thoughtful chap. I have good friends in cogolin, but on a different boat. Your concern is very neighbourly. However, i recognise your dilemma. How about taking the sail off, then rolling it/them up, then folding once and lashing to the mast? If the fold is upwards all water will drain out. if this isn't an option cos the sails are big , there are also some good guys in cogolin name of Repco Marine, more power than sail but they are brits. If unsure you cd run your plans past them, art least so you aren't acting entirely alone, sort-of? A sensible person will be fine if your intentions are good. Repco will have more experience of this sort of thing as well i imagine.

I reckon you should take them off. I'd be pleased at someones attempt to help. You could always take a couple of photos to demonstrate to the owner what was happening.

Magic.

Would it be possible to take a genoa sheet and bind it round the sail to keep it in place?
