Hi all,

Can anyone please help. We have a Bavaria 32 that we would like to fit a life raft to. Most bavaria 32's have the raft on the coach roof but in order to get the coach roof off you have to remove the traveller. Does anyone know how this is done as visually it's not very apparent and before we go splintering the GRP we'd like to know if anyone has had any experience fitting a life raft to a Bavaria 32.

Many thanks in advance

Have a word with Lee or Julian at Victory Yacht charters on 02392 520099. They used to manage our Bav 32 Ali Baba (very well I have to say) and they fitted the liferaft to her down at Haslar as part of the coding process

Can't say for sure about a Bav 32 but on my Bav 37 I found that I could unscrew the cover and there was enough flex in it to enable me to get at the boltheads underneath without removing the traveller. Probably best done on a warm day and with care.

Having said that, I was removing the liferaft from the coach house roof on the advice of my surveyor because he felt it wasn't a strong enough structure for the weight of the liferaft.

It is now on the pushpit - and a lot handier if it is needed in a hurry.

I am just about to mount mine (on a 37) on a teak grating (from Howells) that will sit on 2 stainless bars screwed to the deck alongside the removable cover. Should be more substantial than a cradle screwed to the cover.

I confess to not knowing your Bavaria (I have a 38) But from my knowledge of Bav design and manufacture, I would echo your reservations about doing anything drastic to an item (traveller) that takes a big load and has been suitably installed. Is thre any glassing in that you can see? If so reinstalling might well lead to diminished integral strength.

I put my liferaft in the aft locker - yup, I had to chuck some prized guff, but it's far safer and less prone to theft!

Many thanks to al that have replied regarding our traveller removal to fit a lift raft... It has given us much to think about. We Will contract Victory charters on our return to the UK.

Many thanks once again...
