What's the advice regarding holiday/travel insurance for a sailing holiday?
The first part of the summer to be spent on a family charter in Greece; the second part a round trip from the UK sailing in Spain, Portugal and France.
I hope t be away for about 12 weeks in total
I have an EHIC (?) card.
I have read that there are now issues with Spanish health services charging extra.
Is standard holiday insurance sufficient for this?
Thanks

Nationwide Insurance?

Believe this topic my have already covered in great detail on a previous thread on this or the Liveaboard Sub-forum.

Up to you whether you bother with insurance. Probably worth covering the charter as it is a holiday and holiday insurance covers cancellations and delays. The health side is probably not worth bothering with as Greek health service, even in the islands is excellent and the EHIC covers it. The only thing not covered is repatriation, but this is a rare occurrence. Most ordinary travel insurance does not cover sailing, or at least more than 12 miles offshore.

For your sailing trip the EHIC also gives you good coverage. The issue in Spain is blown out of proportion and arises because there are also private hospitals there that do not accept EHIC, but state hospitals do. Rescue and salvage costs are either free or usually covered by your boat insurance. The only outstanding issue is possible health and accident cover if you are not able to use state services. You can get yachtsmen type insurance giving wider cover from various providers as in the linked thread above.

Having said all that, many cruising people and liveaboards don't bother if sticking to European waters.

Many thanks for the replies.

The search feature also turned up a few leads, so I tried,

InsureandGo, who never answered the phone
Topsail, who answer with a recorded message saying you must do it online
and Bishop Skinner who promptly answer the phone and offer what seems a suitable policy at a reasonable price.

So, I think we will go with BS

My daughter has an RBS "Royalties Gold" travel insurance policy.

Her policy document defines as a "Hazardous Activity" ".......White water rafting. Canoeing. Sailing outside territorial waters, unless undertaken under suitably qualified supervision as part of a pre-paid element of the trip. SCUBA diving................"

That would suggest to me that sailing within territorial waters was not hazardous and thus covered. WRONG. It seems, according to the person at the other end of the phone, that all sailing unless part of a supervised excursion is hazardous and thus not covered.

Either the person on the phone was wrong or my understanding of our language is diminishing.
