Looking around for travel insurance while we are away sailing to the Morbihan for 3 -4 months - who do you recommend? Have tried a couple but they seem to vary significantly in price - two have stated that we have to be 'qualified ' but are unable to specify what qualifications are required despite asking repetedly for a definition ! Who do you use?

We often use http://www.pantaenius.co.uk/en/home.html

Sounds like a great trip - I love the Morbihan!

Columbus do a policy called something like "Advernturer" or something like that.

Their cover includes proper offshore for extended periods.

Not expensive either.

We use Insure & Go long stay policy. Covers coastal sailing and scuba to 30m, £160 for two of us for 8 months this year. Covers emergency medical evacuation (but not search and rescue) and repatriation. Offshore can be added at a daily rate when needed.

Endesleigh do a gap year policy that is worth checking out. They have offered it for two people and two years in the past. max age used to be 65 and I think it is ow 55.

WARNING I did some serious research into getting a policy of the type that you are looking for and a number that I looked at SEEMED OK at first but it was not until I examined the small print in detail that I found things that made it inapplicable. But the companies agents were quite happy to sell them to me.

I found the same with all agents insisting we were covered until I insisted on it in writing then their superiors stated we were not. Decisions oscillated at each level once we then asked for premium refund (and for previous years!).

Final cover through Bluefin which is an RYA endorsed policy.

For boat cover to be extended to sail Spain and Portugal (2 handed) they were happy with me being YM (comm) and SWMBO being DS and YM theory.

Knew I could rely on you all ! Many thanks - I am contacting all suggested...I have also had the issue with what exactly are we being insured for...the main brick wall I am coming up against is 'Are you qualified?' Each time I ask what qualification is required they just repeat 'you need to be qualified' !!! Arggggghhhh
Was never too worried about insurance until I injured my hand on a bus in Guernsey and left the island nearly £1000 poorer - luckily they admitted blame and I managed to reclaim all the costs but it was a good few months later. Now I don't travel anywhere without insurance.

Now just need to arrange some decent weather :-)

Insure and Go-my wife just did 3 months in OZ and NZ-so long as you are under 65!.
Only issue I have is that some years ago having badly cut up my leg in NZ and got it infected I needed advise and the call centre day time NZ night time UK is switched over to a rather poor quality Indian Centre.

I have found this numerous times, over all sorts of policy. You really have to check.

Swift cover car insurance will not allow you out of the country for more than 90 days a year

For EVERY policy I have found travel insurance has to start from your own front door. If you are in Singapore say with work and decide to stay extra your personal travel insurance will not cover.

If someone knows the exception let me know please.

Try http://www.mnui.com/

They covered me for a bucket list ski trip to Colorado starting from the Caribbean. N.B. If I had started from the UK it would have cost £50, from the Caribbean the best quote I could find was £250.

For the skiers out there I skied A Basin, Lovelands, Winter Park, Steamboat, Vail, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Keystone, and Copper. Pricey YES but days in the mountains are priceless.

The other problem with the long stay policies is that if you have to go home for some reason during the cover, it ceases. The premium and cover are based on what you tell them when starting the policy and any changes will invalidate it.

Hello,
Sorry for digging out this thread, but I would like to ask you about the best travel insurance in Singapore.
Would you advice me to subscribe this policy ? https://www.axa.com.sg/travel-insurance
