We hope to leave next month for a long trip away.

todays conundrum involves .1 do we maintain private health insurance in the UK while away?

I am not sure that we would be covered while overseas, and when we are sitting on a beach in the South Pacific ( wishful thinking), I am not sure how much use it will be.

any suggestions?

2. Travel insurance.

We will use the E111 cards while in europe. However my initial internet searches did not come up with any insurance that would cover a circumnavigation. They all seem to have very strict limits on the length of the trip.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I've never bothered with private health insurance so can't comment on that. For circumnavigation, it's no use looking at the the standard policies which turn up on Google, talk to the marine brokers or the specialist companies doing long term back packers cover. We used to use Insureandgo with one of their long term back packer type schemes until age made it too expensive. Coastal sailing and scuba was covered as standard and offshore could be added for specific dates.

This seems to be the policy - https://www.insureandgo.com/Content/downloads/IAG_MF_PW_RCSTD_0614.pdf

Years ago, my private health ins covered me abroad up to certain limits, so I'd check your t and cs. If you cancel it, restarting in the future may involve all sorts of exclusions.

I seem to recall an earlier thread which covered long term insurance.

As suggested standard travel insurance of no use, neither is private health insurance in UK.

You need to talk to a specialist insurer such as Topsail, Pantenius or Bishop Skinner. Policies are available but obviously cost may influence your decision.

Beware of any company that uses Mapfre to administer its medical insurance claims (as Insureandgo and others do!). The proof of the pudding is in the claim and its a shame when you go hungry !
