There's one for sale near to me, and it looks well cared for. Before I go rushing off, what's the opinion of the forumites of this vessel? Anybody got/had one? Good/bad points? Anything to look out for?

JJ did not cover the 300 is his A-Z of boats, but did other Trappers.

So far I've discovered its of 1978 vintage, has Yanmar 8hp recon (2002) engine, 5 sails including almost new Spi. It's on a 4-wheel trailer, which is probably worth around £1k on it's own, I think. Asking price is £10k including the trailer.

Do you think it's worth a look? All comments gratefully received.

This is a sporty little number similar to the T250 which was mentioned, but Bruce Kirby designed, not Ed Dubois. Good looking, simple and quite basic but practical interior. sails very well but a maybe a bit lively for family cruising. Expect to pay around £8,500 to £9,000 for one in reasonable nick.

Sailed very nicely, used to cruise and race a mates 300 from Ramsgate and Medway. Very small for a 25ft boat, but pretty to look at and a good sailer. I found Interior cramped after a week of living aboard on hols, but OK for weekending for 4 people.
Think Pete got about 8k for his, and it was in spanking good nick.

Great little boats, but I would say that.
some useful info <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.trapper300.org.uk/>here</A>
Watch out for leaks from cracks around stantion bases some are easy to repair other more complicated as the boat has a moulded fibre glass lining making access to some fittings very difficult on the other hand it means interiors tend to remain looking very good for the age (no headlinings falling down). Watch out for dodgy gas installations as there is no dedicated gas locker. If its a 1978 model it probably has a YSB8 engine, Check the mounts access to them is very difficult and may require engine removal to replace. Check fuel tank for signs of leaks and corrosion ( they rust from inside out)
After all that still a great little boat. If I can answer any other questions PM me

Ian,

Many thanks for that. There was certainly some good stuff there. As to gas, the owner did not like the setup that was in when he bought it, so has changed to a 2 burner spirit stove.

It's on the hard at the moment, and I know he has someone else interested, but he works offshore and is away just now. I think that I will go and have a closer look once all this white stuff is gone.

Is yours out of the water at the moment?

I had a friend who owned one and it was a great boat
I had a hunter delta at the time and thought the trapper actually sailed a bit better - it was quite lively but I don't think there was anything unpredictable about it -
get in there and have a look.
