In various articles I've seen people using a tranparent plastic (?) film (off a roll?) with a grid printed on it to trace an outline of some part of a boat to make a panel, sprayhood section, or whatever. What's this stuff called? Any recommended suppliers?

(Yes, I have tried Googling variations on tracing/film/grid etc. but ended up confused, and even more uncertain as to what I needed or was being offered.)

Thanks for the suggestion, but 'currently unavailable'', seems usually sold in small sheets, and think I may need something a bit more robust.
Why don't you use ordinary heavy guage polythene.?.The other thing you could try is monaflex,a tarp material with a grid of heavy strands thru it.

Don't laugh but a dressmaking supplier will probably come up trumps, used a lot in cutting pattern making.

Link takes me to Amazon and lists 80cm15m rolls for £6.60 plus £5.95 delivery and they are in stock, ready for dispatch so it is available and I would not call 80cmx15m a small sheet.

It is 'in stock' this evening. It was 'currently unavailable' last night.

I would not call 80cmx15m a small sheet.

Nor would I, but the other UK sellers I found (when the original link showed 'currently unavailable') were selling it in 86cm x 61cm sheets or similar.

More to the point, the 80cm by 15m roll is listed as 299 grams, which I reckon comes out at about 25gsm, less than a third the weight of photocopy paper, and therefore, as I said, I think I need something more robust.

The mylar/acetate sheet looks like the thing. I'm still trying to find one with a printed grid this side of the Atlantic, on a roll but not in industrial quantities.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. (Transpaseal really takes me back down memory lane, too!)
