Anyone actually using a Transcool evap air conditioner? If so do you recommend it? Looking at the physics it seems these won't do much in a humid environment so at £350 a go in UK (compared to 299 ozzy dollars) it's a big investment. Maybe DIY time again.

www.ecocooling.org have some interesting data btw.

We brought one out this year. No attempt to run it permanently as air conditioning but it has been useful as a personal fan, for the cook in the galley and then at the table when we eat, on the odd occasion that we don't eat in cockpit. Far superior to the Caframo that is sited for the same job, the air flow from the Transcool feels quite chilly. Lot of money for the few times it has been used but an extremely simple thing that could be made cheaply. You can buy the reticulated foam sponge as a spare.

Quite a large investment (@£350) for a device that would be very dependent on RH.
OK, I'd guess, in meltemi conditions with <40%, but rather less than N Crete with about 66% RH.
As Vyv points out a simple DIY device.

Usually, the most windless conditions are when on is immured in a marina - @ anchor one can usually expect a decent through draft, from forehatch amplified by a wind-scoop.
This leads to the next point - usually one has ac power in a marina, so what about a small self-contained air conditioner that fits into the forehatch?
Certainly a lot less costly -
