Looking for one or two crew to help with a 42ft catamaran delivery to Ft Lauderdale from West France. Problem is visas ... you need US citizenship or a valid BI/2 visa to enter on a yacht. Of course, decent offshore and night watch experience also required. Please pm me.

visas

Hi,
Thanks for your input. Is this based upon experience? Getting answers from the US embassy is nigh on impossible.

yes this is based on experience, you are supposed to leave on the boat again but if you talk with homeland security in Miami they say you can leave by plane. when you arrive in ft lauderdale you must ring on arrival and then you have 24 hrs to report in with paperwork. they are very helpful.

Mmmmm. I talked with the embassy and they said that it wouldn't be acceptable. Of course what happens on the ground may be another matter.

I think your crew will need a B1/B2 visa...

I have lots of experienced and qualified crew registered with me, many of whom have the relevant visas for the US. Drop me an email if you cant find anyone yourself, i'd be glad to help!

Talk to homeland security rather than the embassy, as when i enquired at the embassy they said B1 which i obtained then spoke with Homeland security and was told C1D emailed embassy and was told yes C1D was what i needed as captain on charter boat visiting US. what a pain as now i have to complete th eimmigration card saying i have a visa cancelled which can be a right performance at the airport, nearly missed a connection because of it. It might be easier to take the boat to bahamas and then get US crew to take it to ft Lauderdale saves loads of hassle with Visas

I know the Jester Challenge forum will be able to answer this. There are many 10's of single handers leaving plymouth USA bound at the end of May who will have addresssed this issue by now.

You could drop of the crew in the Bahamas to avoid their weird fingerprinting/retina scanning/protofascist procedures ;) Haven't been back since being subjected to it once..
