OK a Brit might have invented the first train but since then it's gone a bit pear shaped. The japanese on the other hand have been doing rather better...

500km/h maglev train.

Of course had this train been running in the UK then.....

a) all those on board would have been sick (al la APT)
b) it would have crashed
c) it would have hid some idiot on a level crossing.

Rubery Owen were building the British mag-lev hover monorail train back in the 1970's, then the government pulled the plug.
Why is this country so negative? being positive entails hard work.

A lot of people in the UK ride in trains using APT technology every day. They just call them Pendolinos but it is the original BR technology. Under continued pressure from the newspapers - a popular theme of knocking BR - it became unsustainable. Eventually the technology was sold to Fiat who, with very little further development work, used it in Italy. Then they sold it back to us via Alstom as the Pendolino technology!

Sometimes the press should support British technology not make it an easy targtet
