As the topsides are too high to step off I am designated the deck hand to step off the boat at the shrouds and get a line ashore in the marina. The wife will have to learn how the outboard functions .Its just going to be practice ,basically gentle steaming to the berth ,hard to starboard and approximate to the pontoon and stop the engine .Its bow in and there is a fender on the dock .The adjacent berth is a small fish boat well rendered so not seeing any massive problems unless at the las momment she gives it full power instead of stopping.

I didn’t take you for a misogynist 🤔My wife was driving years before me and I find little fault in her driving although she doesn’t like to dive with me as I criticize too much……but learning not to🙂
I don't know why, but I always think a man referring the his wife as "the wife" is a bit off, maybe condescending

And what if you visit another marina, where the pontoon is on your starboard side and to port is a brand-new costly yacht, owned by a lawyer? :D

Serious comment for a change..Does the outboard have ' Kill Cord ' ? If so, it's a good idea to tell your Mrs that if anything at all goes wrong, stuck in gear, throttle problems, even if she gets confused for a moment, just teach her to pull the cord or press the button. I remember a friend's girlfriend ramming a rather expensive Trawler yacht amidships in Brighton Marina when she lost control of their rib !! Luckily rubber bounces and no harm done.

I know you are not in France, but you could try the tried and tested French beginners method. Drive into the berth until the bow hits the pontoon, then find the fender and strings in the sail locker, tie the miniscule sized fender to the the lifeline, sort out the knitting and knots in the first string, then tackle the second string. Finally fix the strings to the bow and stern only to realize the boat is no longer in the berth. 🤣🤣🤣

Now for some better advice. Get some prepared lines fitted to the pontoon and use a boat hook to lift them onboard. To be honest your boat weighs very little so provided you are slowly heading into the berth, you should be able to stop the boat once on the pontoon or use an aft spring.

we would aim at improving on the French method but as we fly a Spanish flag we won’t be expected to do any better!

Observing our fellow marina dwellers it all looks under control on the approach but on close approximation to the pontoon and stop discontrol breaks out and the agreed strategies are thrown to the wind and raised voices can be heard……if I shout at my dearest she may well freeze (childhood problems with her father)As she is partially deaf the least I have to commmunicatethe better😂

I have a feeling that this isn't going to end well.

I would recommend that you do not step off your boat to take a line ashore.
Learn to throw a line, preferably fastened to your vessel amidships, over a dockside cleat and make off on your vessel. Once that is done you can safely step ashore, safe in the knowledge that your crew are not in any danger of drifting off, totally out of control and leaving you unable to influence the situation.
I have seen crews stranded on pontoons on several occasions resulting in chaos.

Let me give you one of my well tested theories on women...... unlike men, women thrive on going to classes to learn about things....I’ve known women to go to bicycle spoke lacing classes....my advice is to enroll her in a proper, official boat handling class. Don’t do this yourself....it won’t end well...for you

A friend of mine has a Sealine F37. She is the captain and her husband is the one in charge of the lines. She can drive that boat like a paper boat.
Let me tell you , she can drive it pissed with her eyes closed and she won’t touch the pontoon when reversing to her mooring, she has the finesse of a swan and the precision of a heart surgeon. Her hubby on the other hand, well, let’s just say he has fallen off twice from the swimming platform 😂😂😂😂
