I am retired and live in West Somerset near Watchet. At the moment I have a half share with my cousin in a 33 foot monohull, a Barbican 33 which we are selling at the end of this season. We sail out of the River Exe at the moment.

I am looking for simpler sailing, less costly sailing and less travelling to and from a boat based on the south coast. I would prefer to sail from Watchet being my nearest port.

I am thinking of buying or building a small 22 foot Trailerable Folding Trimaran possibly the Farrier 22 preferably with a partner who will hold a half share.

You can build a Farrier 22 from scratch with plans but it will take about 1500 hours. That is 30 hours week for 12 months and some take a good deal longer than that. Farrier are making the hulls for fitting out later this year so this could be a better option because the boat could be on the water in a shorter period of time.

These boats are fast, a lot faster than my B33 but not as roomy.

They can get into shallow harbours and anchorages. They fold up to avoid high marina charges associated with multihulls and can be towed on the road by a reasonable sized family car. You also avoid boat yard storage charges in the winter if it could be stored at home, if not maybe under cover in a farm barn perhaps.

I have shared two boats with my cousin, off and on, for 10 years and we share capital cost and running costs. It has worked out very well because not only do you halve the capital and running costs but we also crew for each other. We invariably sail together.

Is there anyone out there who may be interested in this project, preferably in West Somerset willing to explore this idea/venture with me?

I have YM certificate and quite a bit of sailing experience over the years.

I will not be ready to start until later this year or early next year when we sell our current boat. I thought I would put out this idea so that a prospective partner and I could work towards this over the coming months.

Look forward to hearing from you

Folding tri's

Yes I agree, no decision made yet.

I have been also conversing on boatdesign.net forum on the subject of building v buying S/H.

Thanks for your interest
