Hi all
can someone advise me what tyre pressure should I have on a single axle trailer carrying a boat around 18 foot, sorry don't know her weight.
THANKS TERRY

I've pretty much given up on reading tyre pressures for trailers. Pump them up to when they look normal (no bowing of side wall). You pretty much know what a car tyre should look like when pumped up normally, do you trailer tyres the same.

Reason is, car manufacturers test out different size wheels and tyres, and pressures, for each car model and loading.

Trailer manufacturers usually have no idea what tyres and load are going to be put on their trailers. If you know make and model of tyre, just don't exceed maximum pressure they recommend, and use some commonsense

This Goodyear site has a pdf file with load and pressure ratings. It tells you nothing about the load rating of your rim however. The trailer manufacturer or wheel manufacturer should be able to advise.

If it's a cruiser with gear, it will be around a tonne. Speedboat around 800kg (both dependent on engine and trailer weight).

Based on 400 - 500 kg per tyre, look on the tyre for the max load / max pressure marking. Use reduced pressure from maximum at about 1/2 the decrease in maximum load (unless you can get a definitive answer from tyre manufacturer).

eg. Boat weighs 1000kg (incidentally, you ought to know this figure). Noseweight is almost immaterial so 500kg per tyre. Tyre marked max 750kg / 60psi. 500kg is 33% less than 750kg, try tyre pressure 16.5% less than 60psi ie 50psi give or take a gnats wotsit!
