Hi all, newby here,

I am the Poole area and I am looking to buy a new trailer. I want a new trailer from a good old British manufacturer, all type approved and everything. I need a 2.5 ton gross trailer to take a boat 7.8 meters. Can anyone recommend a supplier that I can get one from locally.

You need to talk to Me2 on this forum, he is a trailer supplier in Poole and should be able to sort you out with your requirements.
 
I have had trailers from SBS, De Graaff and Indespension and been happy with them all.

Dont want to teach you to suck eggs, but are you sure you only need a 2500kg gross weight trailer ? That only gives a useable dry boat weight of around 1500kg, which is very light for a 7.8m boat.

I have been looking at all the options over the past fw months and will get a 3 ton trailer in time for next season, the best IMHO are Indespension and have owned a few roller coasters before, SBS are good, Extreme look good value however I have not looked close at one yet. Make sure its the right size for the job.
 
Ok thanks, I will try and find me2, I will also try SBS, yeah, I am not sure about Extreme, I have been told they are not type approved, hence the cheapness, is it best to go roller or bunk? Which is best?

I can speak very highly of Becktons (no connection to co other than v. satisfied customer).

Very high quality, and far far cheaper than the SBS's and Indespensions of this world.

Bought a 2800kg gross from them - paid £2600 new and sold a couple of years later for £2400 on eBay so I know they are very well priced.

Also they will custom build and only add what the bits cost - very good to deal with.

Saying that, I think they have sold the business, since I bought so it may pay to check them out - make the trailers at home (albeit very professionally in a proper workshop).

Be sure to check them out before buying elsewhere.

UPDATE:- just tried their website - not there anymore, so I worry they've gone bust. I have also used DeGraaff - also very good, although I'm not sure galvanising as good as Becktons was.

SBS make very good solid trailers, but they are expensive. They sometimes have an end of season sale, so give them a call.
For an occasional launch bunks are fine; bunks are also ok if you have a great slipway with good depth. Otherwise rollers are far far easier, but they bump up the cost quite a bit.
You can try boatsandoutboards and ebay to see if there is a good trailer about... they do occasionally come up, but so does alot of tat !
Guess you would have to pay for delivery or collect as they are local to Poole, sorry , but they will make you a top trailer and excellent service and parts.
Trailertek is outside salisbury.. they stock alot of parts, but not sure if they do boat trailers. Used to get my SBS trailers serviced there.

I don't think so! They are at Micheldever near Winchester which is a good 20+ miles from Salisbury
 
FWIW I have used Indespension in Southampton for many of the smaller boats we have supplied. Always good pricing and spares readily available as well. Recommended as a good option from my experience.
 
Andy Brown at Ambrow in Christchurch is a really good trailer man. He often has second hand ex hire fleet stuff or will build what you need and get it well galvanized. I've had a couple of his trailers and they are really good value for money. Simon.
 
I would recommend RM Trailers, they build excellent trailers that last. More especially the braking system is excellent when it comes to immersion in water. All the brake cabling is open which makes for easy wash down - the more conventional braking system in grease tubes lasts for a couple of years and often has to be replaced. RM will also fit a wash down kit for the trailer for flushing out the hubs which is a well recommended extra. They build custom trailers for the MOD. RM Trailers are in Alresford, Hampshire.
