It’s time to fetch the boat back home. I thought it would be a good idea to have a spare hub made up with a sealed for life bearing. Does anyone have a part number or name for this hub please? my R M Trailer instructions just says it could be Avonride X or Y series and if the bearing falls apart when the hub is removed then a new bearing unit and/or hub will be required. The bearings cannot always be replaced on their own. I managed very well with taper bearings with my last boat keeping them well-greased and maintained...new modern sealed for life bearings seem like a breakdown waiting to happen.

Try going on the trailertek website and comparing your with theirs- they have lots of different types. You need to know the PCD. -measure from the centre of the hub to the centre of the stud x 2.

Thanks for that, PCD is 5.5 so its looking like trailertek Hub 150 assuming I have the wider brakeshoe, it comes with taper bearings which may be better in the long run if I do need to change the hub following a breakdown I can then order more taper bearings providing its possible to fit taper bearings where sealed for life bearings have been fitted previously:confused:

This "sealed for life" infers that the unit has a useful or extended lifespan - it ain't neccessarily so! Hope you find the parts you are looking for, I'd hate to have a bearing failure with two tons of boat wobbling above it!

Peak axle

That axle looks like a peak axle , is there a green name plate on the axle ?.

Have you taken the hub cap off ? if it has a split pin holding the castle nut then it is not sealed bearings.

To me it looks like a 203 x 40 hub , that hub is used by Peak up to 1300kg axle weight. If it is let me know I will have the bearing numbers at work.

Looking at it again and I am sure its not an Avonride hub , I dont think it is a sealed bearing hub.

Thanks, Yep took the hub cap off a while ago the hub is secured with a lock nut. and the hub definitely has sealed for life bearings the rear axle does have the green nameplate Peak, and its rated 1300 serial number 165865. Still not certain about the hub size.

At 1300kgs it will be 203 x 40 , taper bearing hubs will not fit on the sealed bearing stub axle . Give Peak a call with serial number 165865 and they will be able to tell you the bearing/hub number , they will also tell where to get one close to your home.

AvonRide is the type of tow hitch coupling, not the hubs. See the enclosed pic

That coupling is badged Avonride it is true but Knott-Avonride also list a number of their hubs as Avonride hubs

Looks like the Alko caravan axle I just fitted to my boat trailer. I would try a service centre on ALKO uk website. The suspension units look exactly the same and the hubs look similar with the exception that mine are only 100mm PCD the wheels are the same make though.

I received further reply by email to my enquiry from Peak Trailers:-
Hello again
I have now had chance to trace the serial number you have given us and we do keep the brake drum in stock and it comes complete with the bearing, nuts, studs, grease cap, one shot nut. The PCD of 4 x M12 on 5.5” matches what you indicated in your inquiry. The Peak product code is AD200SA455SB and the price is £67.18/each
The next day carriage is £12.50 and we could despatch tomorrow to be with you Thursday.
All prices are subject to VAT and we would require a credit card payment at time of order, please do contact me on 01789 778180 if you wish to go ahead.
Best regards
Anke Muller

What an absolute pleasure it was for me to speak with Anke a charming lady who promised to deal with my enquiry…did so later in the day and provided all the detail I asked for and completed my order…brilliant.

I was going to rant on about other companies I had contacted with regard to my search for the correct hub who could not be bothered but hey ho we got there in the end. Thanks again to those who contributed particularly me2.
