Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and relatively new to boating in general. Anyway, I have a question for you. I have seen lots of trailers with posts sticking up in the air and I believe these are used for a visual purpose so you can see the trailer when it is submerged but also to assist when recovering a boat in strong tides and winds.
Does anyone know where I can get these posts I know they do them as a retro fit item.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, yes having posts fitted to your trailer can aid you in reversing your trailer when the boat etc is not on there, It is also a good guide to the location of the trailer when submerged. Most posts you see on trailers are home made, How ever they do not aid in retreiving the boat in rough water! You will end up smashing the boat in to them damaging your boat. (Trust me Ive seen it happen!)

Your best bet is to make your own, go to b&q or any other diy shop and buy several lenths of plastic tube (at least 15 - 20mm diameter) buy some 90 degree angle tube, and slot them together. You can then either cable tidy them to your trailer or use some u bolts to hold them in place.

Platic tubes much better because it will bend and not damage your boat. If you buy white tube you can even get some bright orange paint and paint the tops to help aid visibility.

I hope this is of help to you.
