After reading another thread about the Largs dry berthing, it got my wife and I thinking again!!!
We are currently selling the boat cause we are not using it, it is in the wrong location, also we are finding the cost of living a struggle as my wife has been unable to return too work.
The boat isn't selling, probably cause of where it is, so I have been talking to another forum member and he suggests getting it moved to the south coast to sell, but after reading another post tonight, we're busy wondering if we could get a trailer for say, under £1k and then dry berth it at Largs, about £900pa whilst we try selling it with someone else, and who knows if we start enjoying it again, we may try and keep it!!!!(I dream about boating out of Largs!!!/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Does that sound like it could work?

And I think i may have asked before(can't remember), but is it possible to get a reasonably priced used trailer suitable for a S24??

So who wants to sell me a twin axle trailer for a 25' cruiser for under £1000????

Cheers

Al.

I think its a great idea, trailer boating can really help reduce your costs. I dont think you will get hold of a decent road trailer for your budget (You need a twin axel 3500kg jobbie) but you should be able to pick up a yard trailer or non road legal American import for less than that. If you need it road legal a tatty one in need of refurb is your best bet.

Keep you eye on B&O and Boatshop24 for trailers. The important part of a second hand trailer are the bearings and brakes, to get these sorted can cost £500, but DIY is cheaper.

I had exactly the trailer you want, a Hallmark Rollercoaster 6, sold it a while back. It was about 15 years old and a bit shabby, I paid £1000 10 years ago, sold it for £1250 and the phone kept ringing for weeks. I had 20 buyers lined up on the first day and the first person who got to my house took it away for the asking price, even though it needed new handbrake and breakaway cables /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif .
Had severall calls from Scotland, apparently their really rare up there! err....good luck /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There are a couple of trailers hanging around in Newrk marina, 01636704022 they may do the job been there a while so may get one at right price, I thought your boat would sell better in the water, price it right im sure it will sell.

Al,

Not sure if this would work or not, but you are more than welcome to BORROW my US Launching trailer for moving your boat from the Loch to Largs - not sure if it would fit of not. It is a single axle trailer to carry my 20ft boat.

Chris

Al,
I would try and hold on to your boat till next year. I have been actively looking for the right boat for over 2 years and was adamant I wanted s23/25 with KAD diesel and was berthing at Troon, but now with the derogation hoo-ha, depending on what happens by next October I would now seriously consider a petrol boat at Largs. There are bound to be many others thinking the same as me, and I reckon when the diesel price hikes up, your selling chances will increase at Largs and Loch Lomond. Makes sense to me to dry berth at Largs for another year rather than punt it now for over £1000 loss.

Yes sorry /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif keep checking on Boats and Outboards, but be prepared to move fast they don't stay on the market long.

Al, the dry berths at Largs are all but gone. Unless they increase the compound its going to be a case of "dead mans shoes" if you want in.

There are a few finger pontoons on "A" pier but I dont think they'd suit you for the same reasons we knocked them back...theres not much room and you cant get in stern first..no good with the little 'uns or the good lady for access.

You could always stick Arkangel on brokerage with Prossers, they might, if you ask nice, stick it on a trailer and put it on display at Largs. I know this will cost you more but it's just a thought.

Cheers

Clyde

it is my understanding that prossers can only sell stock boats at Largs.

Al

I would rather buy a boat from Loch Lomond than a boat that had been used in the sea. I would be inclined to buy a new trailer (you dont want other peoples probs) £2000 from de-graffe. remember make sure you get trailer power washed every time its used - salt water again.

cheers

Yes Prossers contract states, they are only allowed to sell boats they actually own at Largs, all brokerage boats, MUST be sold through EuroYachts.

There are pro's and con's for selling the boat in either area, the boat origionally came from the sea so has already been in sea water, and We've given the Loch nearly a year to try and sell her, so maybe its time to try the sea.

Cheers

I've spoken to Largs Yacht Haven today and they have dry berths available ok, but the price has gone up to £1227pa.

Hopefully see you guys around next season. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

£1227! That is a bargain....Hamble Point is £4300!

You Lucky bugger Al. Having just done it I am sorry I did not do it earlier. We can use her while she sells and is kept in better condition than if left in the water!

Go for it!

Cheers

£4300!!! And is that for dry berthing??????????? Flipen heck, I'm glad i boat up here then, and please don't broadcast those prices to often please, incase any marinas up here read that, and decide to hike their prices up!!!

What are looking at when the Aquador sell Paul?
Are you going to SIBS?

Cheers

Al.

Does the £4300 include electricity & water?

For that I can berth my S34 in Alcudia and pay for four flights for SWMBO and me

Is that right???? Blimey, thats good, We are currently £1800 for a little 24' on Loch Lomond, Largs i think is nearly £3k.
I think Largs must be even dearer than Alcudia by the sounds of it!!!!

Al.

My rent for a 10m berth, including all services, is €460 per month, a berth for your boat would be around €310. Flights around £90.
