In a couple of months time my beloved and I (shes watching ) will be starting to look for a small cabin cruiser at long last (7years wait ). We have decided to go for something trailerable. I fancy something about 22ft if I can get away with it, I was thinking of a Teal sport fisher with a diesel engine. does anybody out there have any knowledge or practical information on these boats. Or alternativly can you suggest a different boat preferably with a hard top wheel house style but please note price limit is only £4000.

Weight and length of rig are going to play quite a part in your decision making too!....and of course what you are going to pull it with.
Assuming that as you want a cabin, its for longer periods afloat so where you will trail to - is also significant in the equation!
Yeah I know, the more complicated it becomes the more determined you are.....me too!
Good luck

Well it all depends...... I find this site caters for the more expensive end of boating, so why not try www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk

I've had a look for you and even on page one (use search facilities and select "off shore cruisers") there are two boats, a Birchwood for £2500 and a Shetland Family Four for £3950 and it looks really good.

Purely my point of view but on boats of that size, I'm not keen on inboards, they take up too much room and with a boat like the family four you can always sell the existing motor and go for a 4-stroke (Honda) second-hand.

Anyway, give it a look, see what you think.

There are some Sealine 195's around for not much more than your budget. (did you really expect to stay within budget for a boat!) I towed one around for about 5 years going to different parts of the Med and Adriatic each year. Towed ok behind a Sierra even.
Good strong performing boat with home comforts of toilet, cooker, comfortable bed etc
I think I saw one in boatsandoutboards.com

Thanks to all who replied. No I dont expect to stay exactly in budget but like I said
someone was looking over my shoulder. Yes folks ive trawled all over the net looking at boats, and ive found some interesting ones. The problem is the oldest one of all for trailboaters, pushing the limit of what we can get away with towing.
The Teal I am interested in is 22ft with about 7ft6in beam, this is bigger than the Shetland range until you get to 610s or 640s but I have been told by other users that it is quite light for its size especially the aft cockpit model. I am also considering Fairline Vixen, Birchwood 22, Seamaster23, Mayland21 etc.Anybody got any comments on these.

Fairline Vixen - good value boat, classic not many around, bit ugly at the front
Birchwood 22 - Best of the the bunch and the biggest. Good size Cockpit - if used in sea get 170 hp not 120 hp much to underpowered on the river go for a small diesel.
Seamaster23 - old fashined design IMHO
Mayland21- basic boat usually low spec

Re: According to My Book....Teal 22

...or Teal 670 as it became known was built down to a price that made it one of the most popular small cruisers of the 60's and 70's. Nearly 1,000 were built fitted out by various yards. Three versions, the Convertible which was most popular has four berths in 2 cabins; Centre Cockpit has a hard top and Sports Fisherman has a large aft cockpit and 4 berth cabin. Hull shape is shallow vee, some boats were built to take outboards up to 25HP for river use or 100HP and 20knots for sheltered coastal waters, Some were fitted with single petrol outdrives up to 120HP giving 20-25knots. LOA 22ft, beam 7ft 9inches, draught 1ft6inches.
