The clinic is overbooked, the registrar has to have a day off before he does 8 hours duty tomorrow (and the day off afterwards), the anaesthetist has phoned in sick and the management want a strategy document on how to be more efficient. And all this before 0800. Welcome to another day in the modern NHS.......

What happened to the proposal to have a Bank holiday on today? I need one (tho the sails are off the boat for repairs so it wouldnt be sailing).

I propose we all down tools today in memory of our great Victory and have a Sbutt bank holiday. Any takers? Happy to buy lunch at PoW if anyone wants to come!

There is supposed to be a Fleet Review and fireworks etc. off Spithead next summer.

Details as follows:-

Outline plan of activities.

a. 22 – 27 June. A fleet of warships and tall ships from around the world will gather at Spithead.

b. 27 June. A rehearsal for the International Fleet Review (IFR) will take place.

c. 28 June –The Fleet will be reviewed followed by a sail past of warships, tall ships and nominated yachts. In the evening there will be a Son et Lumiere illustrating the sights and sounds of a Napoleonic era sea battle followed by Fireworks.

d. 29 June – Drumhead Service on Southsea Common

e. 30 June – 3 July. The International Festival of the Sea (IFOS) including a daily dynamic display in the harbour.

2. Movement Restrictions. There will be a number of shipping control measures to ensure safety and security:

a. Fleet Anchorage. An exclusion zone sketched below but to be promulgated in more detail nearer the time will be activated on 22 June 2005. The zone will encompass the area where participating vessels will anchor for the review plus 200m as a buffer. Only authorised vessels will be allowed entry into this zone.

I will be taking a bank holiday even if the rest of the country aint...!

Nick.

Well the Victory today was flying a whole host of bunting, looking very splendid [when the sun came out and shone on her].

I bet they're planning a right royal feast in the wardroom tonight!

And no doubt in this PC Britain, we will find a way of officially celebrating Trafalgar that doesnt get up French noses! And of course, approved by the HSE, Offtraf (newly set up official regulator for Trafalgar day), Friends of the Earth, and the Equal Opportunities Commission. The latter will ensure that the role of Nelson in the Official Pageant (note, not victory parade) will be played by a one eyed female transvestite, with impeccable pacifist credentials.

Seeing as there appears to be not one person that I know/workwith/correspond with/ sleepwith/drink with or live with who supports any of the institutions that you mention( exception being Friends of the Earth), How the bl**dy hell do they survive?

Trouble is that I seriously think that the much maligned Froggies have got it all right and we have got it all wrong.
