I wonder if this indicates the national psyches?

England call a square in it Capital City after a battle with the french and were ignorant enought to diplay a message "England expects everyman to do his duty" despite it being a British navy with many Scots,Irish and Welsh. The call its main station Waterloo after another battle.

Scotland on the other hand's capital city calls its main thoroughfare after the wastrel sons of German monarchs, and the main square in Glasgow after the patron saint of England , the main street in Aberdeen Union St in celebration of our partnership with our English neigbours.. are'nt we nice?

England expects

Nelson was ahead of his time. He specifically stated that ENGLAND was expecting every man to do his duty (and win). He knew very well that Scotland and Wales didn't really expect any of their lot to do their duty at all and were just hoping that they wouldn't get thrashed too badly. Exactly the same with the European and World Cup football these days.

History isn't that complicated, you know.

Re: Naming of Parts

Glasgow had a station called Queens Street .. think it was named after the sassenach poofs traipsing off the train

Re: England expects

Nah we did'nt need reminding .. it wiz jist you bunch of jessies hiding that needed a bit of rousing!

Re: England expects

Alternatively, it was back in the good ole days when everyone just called the place "england" with none of this political correctness garbage which he wd've had to say some rubbish such as "and not forgetting the scots and welsh and northern irish, and those hardworking families and individuals living in the united kingdom who have come from overseas" else he'd have run out of flags.

Re: England expects

It's a literacy thing. You're wasting your breath (tiring your halyard knotting thumb) writing messages to all and sundry, you may just as well signal to those who will understand it. By the way I thought he'd gone orf?

Re: England expects

He did go orf in the hurf but sold the ID on Ebay .. I bought it. Are you a nice man?

Re: England expects

So you're also a new member and here. I also bought this ID on eBay. How much did you pay for yours?

Considering the reputation of the previous owner of this ID, do you think I got ripped-off by paying 20p with free post & packaging?

Re: England expects

RU that Live8? I'm a very nice man. I'd like a lift across the channel in time to invade Scottish Scotland.

"England expexcts every man to do his duty, and most of the others on the english side too, apart from one or two grumpy celts who England expects will probably stomp off on some minor issue about porridge, or side with the french but that's a lot less likely since the frenchies have already sided with the spanish"

Re: England expects

I paid £746.53 before carriage and VAT .. think I got a good deal .. did you know your previous owner has served time?

Re: England expects

The id is okay but I'd change the name if I were you. The last bloke to have it was a miserable bar steward and a miso... miso...myso... he thought wimmen should know their plaice.

Re: England expects

I thought I'd got ripped off. You must be a real yachtsman with far too much money to burn. Do you keep gin & champaigne in your fridge?

Re: England expects

Was free. The dodgy geezer sent it via email.
