Dear QHM,

Thanks for keeping some semblance of order during Fleet Review and IFOS. I consider it quite an achievement to have safely marshalled a fleet of warships at the same time as maintaining commercial shipping and keeping leisure boats in operation. I expect there were a few spats but I've not heard of any major incidents during the event. Ch11 was wall to wall and you even kept your cool when Spithead Control were less than prompt at responding during the build up weekend.

Good job.

Rob

agree 100% - the marshalls we encountered on sunday were polite and efficient and relaxed-made it all easy for us in advising on the one way route to view the tall ships and when shepherding the lot of us whilst watching the air display on sunday afternoon-well done

Even though I wasn't interested in the event, I agree that the strategy for managing the interests and safety of all Spithead users was outstanding and excellently publicised. Is QHM interested in running the transport for the 2012 Olympics while maintaining services for London commuters like me? Mind you, I retire in 2008 ....

Didn't think they had to pay harbour dues in Portsmouth. Didn't when I was there.

Don't see why they shouldn't though.

I disagree that safety procedures were well publicised. I was aware that there were restricted areas for Tuesday but never saw any mention of Monday being effected ( had a gun waved at me by a boat full of Marines ! ). Judging from the VHF chatter on Wednesday there was some confusion then too. Restrictions were lifted for Wednesday apparently despite there still being many warships still at anchor.

A post worthy of the award of an OBN

What a remarkable achievement to have managed the assembled international fleet and the multitude of spectator craft and vessels and remained professional and responsive to the last.
QHM and Solent Coastguard deserve our gratitude and thanks for an event well managed.

A great and historic event shared by many, was a pity that a very small minority of irresponsible and discourteous individuals made their work so challenging.

Well done chaps ! (& chapesses)
