Trading standards law?

Recently (2 months ago) purchased a Saab 93 from a dealer in surbiton, surry, asked about guarantee at time: 3 months engine and gearbox. Now cylinder head gasket gone, oil running down the block. Have tried ringing and writing no success as of now. Anyone know what the law is and how to enforce it .Thanks

Recommend Which? and/or RYA for legal advice - but be warned: in Court recently the judge, in dismissing my case, opined that Trading Standards don't know the law and Which? have their own agenda!
I think it's called the 'wrong side of bed' syndrome . .

I have always found Saab dealerships good. First question though, did it come from an authorised Saab dealer? Secondly, is it a Saab warranty? Are there any other contact details in the warranty documents?

If you answer yes to both these questions then call Saab in Slough.

Contract Law

The Sales of Goods act is remarkably lax where cars (boats and houses) are involved.

What does it say on your purchase document, or what does it say on you warranty 'certificate'.

Whatever you have in writing is what you will have to present in court, after you have visited the said dealer and fronted up to him (or her).

I had a similar problem with a Vauxhall. I called our Borough Council (Reading) and they had a contact number of some trading standards bureau. I couple of letters from me and them ... and the warrantee issue was solved: all replaced at no cost. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Standing in the sales reception on a busy Saturday complaining loudly that the car has blown up and that there has been no response to calls may help.

Also, why not name and shame.

I find it surprising that there are precise and explicit trading standard laws on washing machines, trousers and loaves of bread. But not on Houses, boats or cars.

block their forecourt, with it , with large signs written about the problem, if that doesnt work & they tell you to get off their land, park just outside their boundary...

tee hee, parked a landrover on Epsom race course on a race meet day, covered in details of how long it was taking to get a gearbox for my brand new landrover, interesting effect when photod & sent to LR HQ !!
