I am putting this post up for our consultant editor, John Perryman, who is designing a boat for a client. He wants to know if anyone still supplies the old-fashioned sort of mainsail roller-reefing system. Either, he says, that, or perhaps something called Turner's gear. A quick Google hasn't supplied an answer to this question, so I'd be very grateful if anyone had any ideas... Thanks guys...

I have heavy second hand bronze roller reefing gear for sale, purchased from Classic Marine, for 4" approx. boom diameter.
PM me if interested for photo.

Turner's gear is named after ther inventive Rear-Admiral Turner, of Metacentric Shelf fame. It has a pawl handle which engages witha ratchet wheel at the gooseneck. The alternative form is the Appledore type, which has a worm drive at the gooseneck.
Peter.
