Do any agricultural engines share parts with marine diesels? If so, are the parts any cheaper if you get them from a supplier without the word 'yacht' in their name?

(Specifically Volvo 2003T - I've just paid £600+ for an oil cooler)

That particular engine was only made for marine applications. Even if the basic engine had been used in agricultural or industrial applications it would not have used that type of oil cooler. Compared with other "marine" engines, that version was also a very slow seller, made in small numbers over a relatively short period of time - over 30 years ago. All helping to make bits expensive.

In general most of the bits that fail and are expensive on engines in boats are the "marine" bits, so not the same as the industrial bits. There can be savings on things like filters and belts, but these are not expensive bits anyway. Core mechanical parts tend to outlast the engine overall, but some older industrial based units such as Perkins and BMC can be rebuilt using cheaper automotive parts.

We had a Kubota engine on a previous boat that we could get parts for from http://www.vincenttractors.co.uk/ based in Cornwall and they were indeed easier and cheaper to get than from the official marine dealers for the said engines. Very helpful people to deal with and I have no connection at all to the company except on the receiving end of their good service.

no help at all for your Volvo though sorry.
