Teakdeck would you buy a boat if

Would you buy a boat that has had the teak deck removed (bavaria so not structural) and proffesionally epoxeyed and painted to original finish would this affect the value for future sale its a boat that im buying and the owner is paying for the total job should i go ahead if job is done right or walk away

I would rather it was finished with Treadmaster, or similar. But then I would never have a boat with a cosmetic teak deck.

"Yes" and "I doubt it"

Bavaria's are not boats to get emotional and gooey-eyed over. They tend to be owned by sane, level-headed people who want a tool to do a job. So anything that makes life easier without looking worse I would think would be viewed as a bonus.

It depends upon the boat.
Speaking only of cosmetic teak decks...
On some boats they look like such an after thought with them being stuck on that I would prefer the teak only in the cockpit area. Other boats almost need the teak decks for their looks and without it look like the poor mans version.
The main difference between the two is the deck mould. The after thought type have no recesses for the deck to stick into. The latter type however, have the recesses and look like they are missing something.

Cosmetic teak decks, to me, are a very similar concept to 'cosmetic' oak beams in houses.

I would say that it's more akin to UPVC replacement windows. On most standard brick/block houses (which is what a Bavaria is the boat equivalent of) they are cost-effective, good value, and low maintenance. However, you just wouldn't put them on a georgian house or thatched cottage. You'd have to have "the real thing" (i.e. expensive, drafty sash windows that need re-painting every few years).
