I'm trying to trace the origins and history of my MFV and have got as far as its original registry (part 1 of the ships registry), registered on 24.08.1948 in London under its original name of 'Burhou'.
The lady at the MCA told me that they wouldn't hold records for this date but perhaps the coastguard might.
The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich have no records of it but were quite unhelpful.
It was supposedly a Trinity House lighthouse tender but this information is only taken from the fact that the wheelhouse is made by them, which is aluminium (which obviously isn't original).
Can anyone advise me on how to get through the brick wall i'm coming up against?
I'd really love to know more about her history as she's now older than I thought.
Thank you for your time. Neil.

There used to be a MFV named Burhou in Braye Harbour Alderney - Owned I believe by Trinity House - This is going back some - say 1960's. It was moored where the life boat is now. Try Trinity House or even the Museum on Alderney.
Hope this helps

I have just phoned a friend of mine and confirmed it was operated in South Wales by his firm. prior to that It was used for upgrading work on the Smalls lighthouse working from Solva in West Wales.

From about 78 to 86 She was in Barry Harbour operated by my friend on behalf of Trinity house She was used to service the lighthouse on Flatholm Island ,the breaksea Lightship as well as the local navigation buoys. She then had a Gardner 6LX main engine. She then went for a refit at Saul Junction near Gloucester and then was sold out of service.

Thank you both so much for your valuable information. It means a lot to me to recieve it.
I've contacted Trinity House who are being very helpful and are going to try to find out anything they can too.
If you hear of anyone who has a past photograph of her, especially at work, I'd be so grateful to try to obtain a copy.
It looks likely that over the years, she worked in both these locations and i'm prepared to visit the areas to find out more information.
Thank you again. Neil.
