Re: Trabold Bypass Filter

Have taken a look, wouldn't touch it witha barge pole. What's wrong with regular oil and filter changes?

Bypass oil filters have been about for many years. There was an australian product that I can rememeber that was a fancy housing that simply took a standard household loo roll that performed the filtration duty! The essential thing to remember about any type of filtration is what you want it to do. In a diesel engine you want it to keep harmful contaminants from passing through your moving parts. The engine manufacture does this by filtering all the oil before it enters the oil ways. This form of filtration is essentially a compromise between having to achieve the required oil flow through put and sacrifices filtration efficinecy but not to a harmful degree.
A bypass system does not fiter the full flow but simply takes a small oil stream and filters it slowly and at high efficiency. To fit one of these in place of the full flow cartridge would starve the engine of oil flow. Hence you still need to keep on the engine your full flow filtration catridges.
The bottom line is if it was worth doing engine manufacturers would supply it as standard because it would offer them something unique and attractive for their customers.
