Thinking of taking a berth there this season. Any other berth holders or regular visitors that can advise me what it is REALLY like there, particularly the infamous 'wash'. Anybody's boat been damaged there, horror stories etc?
Be very grateful for any advice.

I kept a boat there for three years and the wash is as bad as they say. We went through countless mooring lines. I am sure I protected them as much as I could. Other big problem is car parking - IT IS NON-EXISTANT. You used to get free parking in a special car park but that went, then they gave you a car park pass for the quay car park and then that was stopped. Music from La Margehritas can go on until the wee small hours so certainly not an ideal marina. Just my opinions but the price is cheap compared to other Solent marinas. Try Kemps further up the Itchen, tide bound but price is good and certainly dont get the wash and plenty of car parking.

Avoid TQM. We left after boat was damaged due to wash. It's scruffy, badly managed and there is way too much "bitching" and politics with the residents and their association.

Other than that, it's fine!

PS During the Boatshow and Cowes Week we were turned away from the car park as there were no allocated spaces left, staff were not prepared to fit us in other empty spaces. After this happened we were told that parking was first come first served, not a right of berth holders.

i visit alot there. i wouldn't take a perminant berth there tho. wash is bad. ferrys noisey. and no car parking. as mentions before there is kemps, there are also a couple of marinas under the bridge towards northam that are fairly cheap compared to others. i ended up in haslar. no fighting the tide for an hour in and out of southampton water.
