I posted a question about increasing tender size so I could tow toys with the tender (link to post here ). I knew what the answer was (3m rib is too big for a v40), but have a problem still. The V40 is too big to tow a doughnut with children in (recovery could be dangerous etc etc), the current tender is too small to tow anything. What is the compromise? Any ideas?

3m RIB to big for a V40???? Surely not. I have an Avon 311 RIB on my Phantom 37 and it is not tooo big (its getting there though, and it is on the limit for the davits) There must be a way to get a 3m rib on a V40.

At last! What engine do you have with it? What davits is it on? How much does it all weigh? Do you suffer from any overhang (ooh err)?

I have a 9.9hp Evinruide (I am trying to uprate it to 15hp though,,,,something to do with No1 Moose wanting more that 24kt's????/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif)
It is on Whittal davits rated to 90kg each, the whole lot weighs 87kg's So I allways take the stupidly heavy 23lt fuel tank out. I have a 2 kg anchor in the bow locker (get a RIB with a locker, very useful!!) So 89kgs on 90kg davits /forums/images/icons/cool.gif
Overhang,,,,no.

I don't know anything about these, but does have 2 davits at 90kgs each not mean you have a combined load limit of 180kg?

BTW. where are you today?

Overhang not really a problem in my experience. I have a Valiant 2.7m rib on my P32 - the boat tapers (bit like a yacht) so the rib protudes a bit either side of the transom, but not the overall width of the boat. I am on the Broads so do a lot of river cruising and the odd trip to sea and have not had any problems with this (balloon fender does the trick in keeping the RIB away from lock wall etc).

Hmm, don't understand why a V40 is too big. I don't much like the "donut" things especially when they have more than one at a time - seems a recipe for banging heads, and the lines are always quite short. Lots of fun to be had waterskiing or towing a banana. I use a bridle of floating line off the rear cleats. Golden rule though, always switch off engine before they get near, makes it all pretty safe i think?

I'm worried about recovering young children for 'fun' should one fall out of the doughnut. I'd feel happier doing this from a tender.
