I need to touch up CopperCoat put on very effectively by previous owner - If it was antifoul paint I would probably only need half a litre.

WHAT is the least quantity I can buy.

HOW much money.

WHAT preparation (i.e. Can you sand it?)

1/2 a litre.
Sand the area to be painted with 80-100 grit (quite course)
Use a mini roller not a brush.
Use a hairdrier to accelerate drying between coats.
To mix smaller quantities get clear plastic cups and divide the 3 components by eye.
To do half get 6 plastic cups for example.

Almost as soon as I had recoated my keel with Coppercoat I sailed over a submerged large fishing float made by tieing polystyrene blocks together with wire cable. It gouged a long scrape in the new coating. End of season I patched it using exactly the process described by Elessar. I cannot see it now years later.

Copper coat supplied me with about 0.5 litre epoxy plus the copper filings for about £58 a few years ago as skeg needed refitting due to orginal construction issue (glassed on nicely now!). Piece of cake to roll on.

Elessar & Everyone - thanks very much

I scraped the coat. Not a big area.

Bought some copper powed on eBay and mixed it with some West epoxy and slapped it on. Not elegant but it seems to have worked over the years.

I don’t know how.
Epoxy is waterproof so the copper can’t get to the sea and corrode.
Coppercoat uses a water based epoxy that slowly erodes exposing fresh copper.
I’m glad it worked for you but I’d strongly recommend against it.

I'm not sure i believe the "water based epoxy" theory.
I've had coppercoat on my boat for 10 yrs now and only ever had to do a little touch up now and then along with a "reactivation" using a fine abrasive paper or a coarse rubbing pad, either in the yard or whilst at anchor. Coppercoat for me has been a successful investment and I would not go back to conventonal antifoul.
Water based paint on cars doesn't wash off in the rain, why would water based epoxy dissolve in the sea. If it does, then the rate is very slow as mine is still there after 10 yrs. I guess what I'm coming to is that even using non water based epoxy, it could well work if you follow the prescribed process of abrading it and exposing fresh copper when required.

It’s not a theory it’s a statement of fact.
Ring AMC and ask them.
£50 to the RNLI wager.

What's your problem. I am merely stating what I have experienced in the last 10yrs. I don't need to talk to anyone about what I have experienced or about about what I think. I certainly will not be talking to AMC or taking your offer of a wager up.
I'm offering an opinion on the forums which I am entited to do even if you don't agree.
Why don't we both give £50 to the RNLI.
Send yours and send proof of payment and I'll immediately do the same.

My problem is that I stated a fact about Coppercoat and you said “I don’t buy that theory”
It wasn’t a theory so that was insulting.
Feel free to have an opinion. But don’t insult me.

As has already been stated AMC sell a repair kit.

Spoke to the chap at AMC last week:

Mix ratio is 1:1:1 by volume. A spoon works well.

I mixed 3 tea spoons of each in a diswashed old tuna tin for each of the 5 coats.
Got the job done in about 2 hrs...

Where in my post did I state "I don't buy that theory". Read my post again. - I said " I'm not sure I believe that theory". Big difference.
Also, I did not reference your post in any way in my post so you are assuming I was replying to you but I was actually posting to the thread.
If you are this touchy about posts in public forums then maybe you should not be in them.
In my opinion I did not insult you, if you think I did then that's your problem not mine.
Goodbye.
