I'm venting my spleen! Solitaire was taken out the water on 16th June for the fitting of her new diesel engine. I spoke to the engineers and said that I wanted her ready to go back in the water by 1st August - that gave them +/- 6 weeks. OK, so the transom had to be filled ready to accept the Yamaha leg after taking out the Volvo gear. It's now 7th August, the transom is filled but the engine is still on the pallet, OK, so its been painted (the engine), but the hole in the transom still has to be made. I went up to the yard this morning and started to get a bit angry - in the nicest way - no profanitity or the use of Anglo Saxon, just simply pointed out that as I had paid 75% of the cost up front, why the devil were things not moving faster. Particularly given the current weather.
I am really pissed off!!!!!!!!! I thought by showing good faith and paying something up front they would get on with it. It seems to me that precisley the reverse has happend. "Got his dosh, so he can't go anywhere else, we'll do other jobs in front of his and get more money" Well,I suppose it was my fault, after all what should I expect if I pay upfront - SERVICE????????????????????????? /forums/images/icons/mad.gif/forums/images/icons/mad.gif/forums/images/icons/mad.gif

Did you get a written quotation/estimate that stated delivery times?
Surely if you have some documentation stating that they will have the job completed by a particular date they are in breach of contract.
I would start grumbling about trading standards and small claims courts and see where that gets you - although if they are as bad as they sound they may just decide to drill nice little holes in the bilges!

None - apart from saying their busy and that the laminator was delayed. I know the full story - and it has to do with a barter arrangement not being met, so the other has delayed things deliberatley and yours truly has been caught in the middle. Even the boat yard owner has been pushing my case.I 'm going up there again tomorrow to speak with the owner and get a firm commitment. While I was there this morning they were taking another boat's engine out! I was told 2 weeks ago that my boat had priority!

Thanks John/forums/images/icons/smile.gif The engine I got came out of a boat in Lyme Regis! At least I'm getting out on the water doing powerboat training, but its not the same as being out on your own boat.

I used to moor in LR, which boat is it out of. Presumably Rob Perry's took it out? BTW still visit regularly, one of my favourite summer ports.

Tough luck! I'd be fuming by now! Speaking (firmly, but politely) to the organ grinder, not the monkey, is usually my approach.

The speed of any work done on a boat is slowed by how desperate you are to get it in the water X the amount of gorgeous weather happening at the time.

Hi David,

This is dreadful - I know the people by reputation and have generally heard good things. If you fancy coming over to the fireworks tonight we'll leave at 6.30 ish from the boatyard - you'd be very welcome and we're leaving the kids at home so it shouldn't be too unpleasant!! PM me if you fancy it.

all the best,

Matt
