Hi all
i have this lappi with 2 x usb ports i serial port ( i think )
i cunningly bought from ebay a 4 way splitter thinking for £1.65 delivered i had solved the issue.
i am told i need an active splitter to power:o.
i would like to run
1 x Belfield AIS dongle
1 x Maplin GPS dongle
1 x TP Link wifi extender
1 x mouse

What do the esteemed panel suggest pls
TIA

USB-Serial adaptors are always hit and miss. They operate at a 'lower' level than USB, and can get screwed up if they are unplugged, or plugged into a different port to the one they were set up on. ie they don't really like 'hot swapping'. Very much recommend plugging the Serial adaptor into one of the USB ports and leaving it there (Unless I misread your post, and the AIS dongle is serial, and plugged into the serial port on the computer).

The GPS dongle, wifi extender and mouse might in total be too much current draw off of one USB port - so yes, an active splitter would be best.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
3 outlets is really enough for my needs, though it would be nice to be able just tape up 3 or 4 usb`s on a splitter & just plug the one end in to the Tosh.
