I have had a Torqueedo 401S since 2010 and have been very pleased. Ive seen various threads on the pros and cons of electric outboards on this forum so I know there are forumites with these batteries

However I was not aware there was a recall on the Batteries of some 401 and 801 models due to risk of fire. Im not sure how long this recall has been in place . Ive never seen it advertised so I just thought I would alert you all to check your Torqueedos

My 401 battery has stopped holding charge which is what prompted to look at the Torqueedo website to see if I could buy a spare battery. That is when I found the recall info which covers my outboard.

The recall dates back to at least 2012, when I swapped out a battery for an 801. At the time I was given the option of a discount off one of the new models instead of the replacement battery but declined. Unfortunately, 2 years later the battery developed a terminal fault. Torqeedo said this wasn't covered by the warranty but again offered to take my old motor in part-ex against a new one through one of their UK dealers and I took them up on the offer, getting a decent discount off a 501.
