Not visited Magnum since early November what with moving house just before Christmas, but we're off to "sunny" Devon Friday morning for some proper boaty fun - UK style. Weather forecast looks "OK" - http://www.metoffice.com/lib/includes/fsssi/city/torquay.html - if not amazing. Might venture over to Salcombe but need some fuel and probably won't have time on Friday to fill up. Anyone know who is open Saturday and if fuel quality is good?

Re Fuel Availability see my post of 6/12.
Dartmouth Barge is normally open in the Winter on Sat/Sun from 0800 - 1200. I've never had a problem with its fuel quality, only its price. Still, with a boat of your size a reasonable discount should be available /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Salcombe Barge has gorn away for a survey, or had as of last week.

Have a nice week.

Magnum II

Had a good look at the P67 at LIBS..... lovely boat and a lot of boat for the money.... also have 1200 MTU's as option ...nice! Also liked the "opaque" glass system in the galley..pity they can't use it for all of the windows instead of blinds...

Felt bigger than the Pred 72 too!

You're gonna have loads of fun with it. Prob see you ropund the Solent before you go Med bound.

Re: Magnum II

1200 MTU's? You sure? I've asked several times about new engine options and as a result upgraded mine from MAN 1050's to the new MAN CRM1100's.

Re: Magnum II

I'm certain.

I personally don't favour MAN.. so did enquire about MTU as an option. The sales chap said yes its an option, differential price £200,000! I laughed and said don't be ridiculous... He looked it up in "their" book and apologised and said erm sorry I mean £20,000... and the're 1200's as oposed to the 1050 MAN's

OK thanks for the info. I've mailed my contact at Princess for clarification. I'll report back with findings.

Re: Magnum II

It appears that the new MTU 1200's are now an option for P67's delivered after Jan '06. The decision to offer them was announced at LIBS. No engines have been delivered yet and mine we're specced at Southampton in September. The cost difference betwwen the MAN CRM1100's and MTU 1200's is indeed £20K.

I'm a bit brassed off about this, although I do accept that new engines are intoduced during a model's lifetime. Don't know much about MTU but I know 2400HP is more than 2200HP. MAN have the superb MMDS CLC6.3 Electronic display system and I'm not sure whether MTU have something similar. Either way it is impossible for me to specify the MTU's as my engines were ordered months ago and go in first week in March.

Re: Magnum II

I wouldn't worry bout it Mark. 2400 is more than 2200 but not much, praps 1 knot tops, and the MAN CR might have a better power curve (being all electronic and modern) than the MTU, though I haven't looked. MANs are nice white, MTU are yuk silver

Re: Magnum II

Well the MTU 8V-2000-M93 is a brand new design. Weighs the same as the MAN but produces 9% more power. Designed specifically for a marine environmoent, not marinised. Should be a knot or 2 in it but better fuel economy. But mainly it's resale value I'm concerned about. Anything other than the "premium" engine choice is often looked over unless its cheap.

Re: Magnum II

Gotta say I think Magnum is absolutey right to be hopping mad.

The fact is, Princess MUST have known about this pending engine upgrade, months before Magnum ordered his boat, yet said nothing.....

Reminds me of a friend who bought a V46 and less than a year later they launched a V48.... he was livid and understandably so.

Yet another example of a British boat builder who is only too eagre to take your money first and worry about client care (if at all) later!

Get stuck in Magnum..... you're buying a premium brand, spending a fortune and you deserve better care from them!

What about Torquay or Brixham?

I'm pretty sure neither are open for fuel at weekends this time of year.

Re: Magnum II

All agreed. If it's as good or better in the modernness stakes, then get the MTU. As derf says, they must have known about this, so they're in the wrong for not telling you clearly all your purchase options and letting you decide what to order based on the FULL facts.

Think you'll find there isn't a fuel berth at Brixham at all during the Winter. Notice on the fence at Torquay seemed to suggest that the berth there does not currently open at weekends - may perhaps be worth a call to the marina to confirm this.

Re: MTU Engines

My contact at Princess Motor Yacht Sales is looking into this situation with his boss tomorrow. I'm less than pleased that just 4 months after its launch and 6 months prior to taking delivery there is already a higher powered engine option available to new customers in the form of the MTU 8V-2000-M93 1200HP. Surely the launch of this new model should have been handled better than this?

I hope that the good service I have received from Princess Motor Yacht Sales will ensure that this uncomfortable situation is resolved to my satisfaction. Right now I feel like I've bought something that even before I have owned it is second best. I'll keep you posted.

Re: MTU Engines

Update - Met my contact at Princess Motoryacht Sales today and although the MTU 1200's are not planned to be available until Jan '06 they will re-schedule their production plans and get me an MTU equipped P67 for Sept/Oct delivery this year. Extra cost for engines is £20K but because the build slot is at the next year's price that will put another £28K on the cost. Not sure I think that's fair, but that's what I've been told. I'd have the first MTU equipped P67 but there may be some develop time still to do on my boat. It would be the first after all.

Or, I stay with the MAN CRM1100's, pay no more and get my boat in July this year. What does the panel think?

Hard Choice

I guess you have a number of issues to consider Magnum.

1) How badly do you want your new boat for this year, and are you prepared to wait until Sept/Oct...if Princess meets it schedule for your boat.

2) Do you keep the 42 this year and get not the first MTU but 2nd or 3rd boat early in '06 hopefully without teething problems

3) Will a MAN 1100 devalue your boat by more than 50K over a an MTU equivalent.

4) if you keep P42 for this season will that devalue further... increasing the real costs of the MTU option.

At least Princess have demonstrated that they value your custom and are propared to accomodate you; However I think it scandalous that they want to add a cost increase, when it was they, who omitted to give you sufficient information to make an informed decision on engine options at outset.

Press them to capitulate... there is no reason for yet another cost increase

Really tough one...

if this fails.... then final thought....If you "worked" your money wisely over then next 6 months could you make 50K to cover the additional costs..... thereby getting the MTU upgrade gratis so to speak....Its not that you'll be without a boat as you still have Mag I...

If it were me, I'd take an early 06 boat and make the extra 50K growth on my money! and get Free MTU's

Re: MTU Engines

Hmmm. No easy answer. I cant help you decide the basic question but if you did decide on the MTUs then I'm not sure there's much sense in October delivery. Might as well get Jan delivery then it will be an 06 boat (I know it's 06 model year anyway). That will add 28k to resale, so offsetting the extra cost. What a PITA

By the way, anyone ordering a Volvo D12 715hp powered boat please note there will be an 800hp D12 around July 05!

Re: Hard Choice

Indeed it's toughy. Anyone find a torque curve for these new MTU's? It's a completely different setup to the MAN's. MAN's are V10/18.4L/1100HP. MTU's are V8/17.8L/1200HP.
