I seek the guidance of the forum on my forthcoming maiden voyage in my new S29 from Torksey to Hull and subsequently to Kings Lynn.

having looked at the charts and done the homework i believe it is necassary to have pilotage leaving Torksey at or about low water at Torksey.
this seems a bit scary.
i believe the plan should be to get to Trent Falls at or about HW at Trent Falls = HW Hull + 1 hr. thereby entry to Hull Marina at HW + 2hr allowing for one hour from Trent Falls to Hull. with Hull marina 3 hr + or - HW it can realsitically only be 1 hr later.
Journey time from Torksey to Trent Falls 4 hours approx so departure from Torksey is very close to Low Water.

seek confirmation/further advise/suggestions from forumites who have travelled this route.

thanks

Doug

Had similar feeling when we bought our Broom 42 from Newark down the TRent and up to Goole. Speak to the lock keepers at Torksey they tend to talk sense. With the speed of your boat it should be no problem. The Trent is quite a clean river with no much debris. If your have got the skills to go from Hull to KIngs Lynne the Trent isnt a problem, it looks scary but is quite easy. We met the tide coming in at about Keady then punched it up to Trent falls then up to Goole. It might be more straight forward to leave at high tide and anchor at TRent fall for a couple of hours then up to Hull. Get the TBA TRent charts they are good.

Good Luck Mike

i bought my boat from naburm marina and have been waitng for tide and weather since so we can bring her down to ipswich.
because of what we were told about the trip down to Hull we are employing a local chap to pilot her to said marina. (this wed we hope)
and from Hull as part of my day skipper coarse our local sailing school will have a chap on board to help with Hull to Lowestoft or Ipswich, depending on sea state etc.
anyway my point was that the local lad suggests anchor at trent as the previous answer suggests.
good luck. james.

I agree with your plan.
Yes it is tight, at this time of year there should not be too many tin boats to slow down for.
Ask Torksey Lock keepers about A) amount of fresh water
B) neap ? you could have plenty of water to leave an hour before flood.
Wait outside the locks.
You could go into South Feriby if you run out of time.(check with the Lock keepers but I have been in 3.5 hours after tide which is 20 mins after Hull)
You will need Sissons Chart.

It is great fun. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Doug

I have done the trip from Torksey to Hull marina four or five times. It sounds tricky but you just need to plan it carefully.
Get the trent boating association river guides - very good and very useful - especially about cutting corners. The trent gets shallow and sand banks are sometimes not where you would expect.
Get an upto date chart for the humber estuary from "burton Stather to the bridge" - this bit changes all the time - really!!! call associated british ports - 01482 327171 ask for hydrographic office
regarding leaving Torksey - plan to anchor for an hour or three whilst the tide rises at join of the trent and ouse (apex). Don't be tempted to leave the anchorage too soon - at low water there is no water. Then follow the bouys - in sequence, take binoculars - some are 1mile apart. Its mostly just mud so take you time - then the worst is you get stuck and will have to wait for more tide. Once you get under the humber bridge its easy - the marina is just before the sea life centre.a big glass and metal building /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree with you Kevin but I have only had to wait at Trent Falls once in about a dozen times.
