A note TO me - well what can I say?! Main place is Hampshire, secondary Torquay. We're just retiring rather earlier than is considered reasonable and we're thinking of selling "Hampshire" and basing us at Torquay with a boat in the harbour. I really am starting from scratch and have many many basic questions to start me on some tracks. It's strange that when you buy a car at least you might know whether you want a sports car, or estate car, saloon or people carrier - two, three, four or five door. But in this situation a "boat showroom" doesn't help answer the basics.
So we're wrestling with some basic questions which I hope will give us a start!
Most of us here are residents in homes for the befuddled. Not me... I am the only sane one here.
'scuse me I have to go I always chat with my underwear in the mornings anyway I can hear the nurse's footsteps /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
I am sure that you will be asking loads fo questions as you start to look at a few floating toys... but here aer a few pointers to start with!
Decide what you want to do with it first off... i.e. day trips, weekends away or cross channel type stuff!
Decide where it will be used (am guessing that it will be mainly coastal and not river based.
Now as this is a Motor Boat Chat forum i guess you want a motor boat, but fo course sailing is an option (sorry to all you guys... but apparantly some people like big triangle rags on their boat!)
That will assis tin narrowing down the search a bit!
One thing is for certain... what ever you buy... it won't be big enough and you will want a different one in 12 months time!
I started with a 19foot Fairline Vixen... had some fun, learnt the (very) basics and then bought a bigger one...
Good luck in your quest to buy a new toy... you will get loads of fun with it
12 months? I needed a bigger one after 6 months, bit less probly bout a week in fact, I would advise (or reccommend if I knew how many c's and m's there were) decide what boat you want, then buy something bigger but similar.
